① What is pickleball?
Pickleball is a racket sport that combines the characteristics of badminton, tennis and table tennis. The pickleball court is the size of a badminton court, the net is about the height of a tennis net, and the ball is a hollow plastic ball with multiple holes slightly larger than a tennis ball. The playing method is similar to that of a tennis ball, which can be hit on the ground or volley directly in the air. Over the years, millions of people around the world have tried to experience and establish a good reputation, pickleball is undoubtedly a fun, easy to use and suitable for young andoldnew sports.
The origin of pickleball
On another rainy day in 1965 on Bainbridge Island in Seattle, three close neighbors are having a family reunion when Congressman Joel Pritchard, one of them, gives a group of bored kids something to do. So after the rain stopped, he took two boards and a plastic baseball at random, shouted all the children of the gathering family to come to the badminton court in their backyard, lowered the badminton net to their waist position, and began to play randomly.
Both children and adults were playing very hard. Joel and his neighbor Bill, who was visiting, immediately invited Barney Mccallum, the host of the party, to study the rules and scoring methods of the game.
In the beginning, they also used ping-pong bats, but they broke quickly, so Barney built a prototype of today's pickleball out of wood in his basement.
They then drew up the preliminary rules of pickleball by referring to the characteristics, playing methods and scoring methods of tennis, badminton and table tennis. The more people played, the more fun they felt, and soon relatives, friends and neighbors were invited to join them. After decades of promotion and media dissemination, this novel, easy and interesting sport has gradually become popular across the United States.
The origin of Pickleball's name
One of the inventors, Mr. Barney Mccallum and neighbor friend Dick Brown, each have a cute twin puppies at home. When the master and his friends play in the backyard, the two puppies often chase and bite rolling balls. At first, this new sport does not have a name. For a moment I could not answer.
One day soon after, the adults of the three families got together for a name, and saw the two cute dogs LuLu and Pickle chasing plastic balls. Joel had an idea and proposed to name the Mccallum's dog Pickle (Pickles) and won unanimous approval from everyone present. This new ball game has a funny, loud and memorable name pickleball. Even more interesting is that some pickleball competitions in the United States are accompanied by a bottle of pickles, which really makes people smile when they are awarded.
