Chess is a perfect fusion of strategy and tactics and pure technology. Chess has always been a game tool for scholars and wise men.

1. chess board

The international chess board is a square, composed of 64 small squares with 8 horizontal and vertical squares, one dark and one light in color. Dark-colored cells are called black cells, and light-colored cells are called white cells. The standard chess pieces are moved in these grids, and the white grid is in the lower right corner.

The 8 straight lines from the left to the right of the white square are represented by lowercase letters a, b, c, d, e, f, g, and h.

The 8 horizontal lines from white to black are represented by numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.

2. piece

There are 32 chess pieces in total, divided into two groups, black and white. There are sixteen in each of the two groups, each of which is held by each player. The arms are the same, divided into six types, namely king, queen, rook, bishop, knight and pawn.

In the international chess match, three-dimensional chess pieces are used as chess pieces. In informal occasions, chess pieces with a flat pattern can be used. With the advent of the Internet age, chess has actually entered the era of flat patterned pieces.

Knowing how all the chess pieces move around the board is an essential lesson for you to learn to play chess.

Next, we will learn about the meaning of chess pieces and the rules of moves. The moves of each chess piece are different. Here is an introduction to various chess pieces and their respective moves.

Pawn. This is the most basic chess piece (eight pieces on each side). Its first step can go forward one or two squares, but each subsequent step can only go forward one square. It walks straight and eats diagonally, that is, it can only attack the opponent's pieces that it has slanted into one square, and cannot retreat.

Rook. Its shape is very similar to the tower of a castle. It can be walked diagonally or vertically, and the number of cells per step is unlimited. It can also attack the pawns on its path.

Knight. It is shaped like a horse and is the most complicated move. It walks in an "L" shape, and it can walk two steps horizontally in any direction and one step vertically. Or conversely walk one step horizontally and then two steps vertically. Only it can move past other chess pieces. But it can only attack the pawn at the position where it has stepped.

Bishop. This chess piece can only move diagonally, and the number of squares per move is unlimited, but it cannot pass other chess pieces.

Queen. Shaped like a queen's crown, it is the most powerful chess piece. It can walk horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. There is no limit to the number of squares per step, and it can attack any chess piece in these directions.

King. Each step can only go one square in any direction, and can only attack the pieces in this square. You must protect it, because the death of the king means the loss of the entire game.

Explaining how a chess piece moves on the board is much more difficult than trying to show it to you in person. The best way is to play a few chess games yourself.

As a beginner, you don't need to buy expensive chess board, luxury chess pieces or elegant glass chess set first.

Why don't you choose the minimalist chess set or the standard chess set?
